Sanguinary Guard Finished

Finally finished these glorious beasts. Only took me 5 weeks (sarcasm intended). I guess, they are my most elite unit so they deserve a super flash paint job. Since I don't like "gold" paints, I basecoated the models with chainmail and built up the colour using various filters. I think you get a nice result this way. More glamour shots after the jump and don't forget to tell me what you think:

  1. Wow, those are truly epic! I wish I had the patience to spend 5 weeks on a unit... and the skill to make it turn out so well.

  2. Thank you Mr. Νικηφόρος. Now if I only knew how to use them better in the battlefield. At least I know now not to charge them headlong into 7 Banshees with Eldrad.

When it comes to painting (like gaming) there are many different kinds of attitude I think. Like, you don't want to play with unpainted models so you can paint a whole army to tabletop standard in one weekend (something that I envy). On the other hand, I like to paint my models to the best of my skill and I know I will regret it if I don't. That was 5 weeks on and off by the way, was probably painting a couple of hours everyday. Lost track of how many hours it took me in total though.

Really clean style, I love the beautiful metallic effect mixed with the war-torn look of the wings, a really interesting look and something I've not seen in these minis before. What was your recipe for the "gold" armour?

  5. Really great job as always, but to be honest I'm not that fond on the damage on the wings...interesting paint scheme as well! Keep them coming!! :)

  6. Great Job!

Those look truly sweet, and I like the overall clean, and dirty thing you got going on it works really well. I dig the metal effect you got, do you go into the technique in other posts more or could I ask that you elaborate a bit... I will have a lot of gold to paint soon and I am looking for different techniques to make it look unique.

  7. I really don't think I can add much to this commentary, but I would like to let you know only that you've left me near speechless! They are breathtakingly good.

  8. Thanks everybody (Dr. Nick accent). I think I should do a separate post on how I painted them, later this evening.

  11. the overall work on them is superb, the lighting on their weapons is amazing, is it airbrush?, i love this unit too, i got 15 Sguards myself.

I don't like too much the damage on their wings.
