Indy UK GT

"What is this all about?

Unhappy with the changes to the GW Throne of Skulls Grand Tournament?

Wish someone would organise an event like the old GW GT’s?

With the change in format to the GW Throne of Skulls Grand Tournament we feel that there is now a demand for a player driven Grand Tournament, where the focus is on a players gaming prowess.

Announcing the UK 40K GT. This is an event organised by a number of well known tournament players and members of the UK gaming club community with the aim of providing a non comp, no holds barred event for gamers.

We hope the UK 40K GT will expand over the years to become one of the UK's premier 40k tournaments. However as with all things we must start small and realistic, therefore for its first year we are holding
a single tournament at Maelstrom Games Eye of the Storm venue on the 26th and 27th March 2011. We envisage this event will prove so successful that we are able to hold regional heats across the UK with a percentage of top finishers qualifying for a Grand Final to decide the UK’s ultimate 40K champion. A number of potential venues across the UK have already pledged their future support and we need your help to make this happen! Yes, this year will be only a single event, but the more popular it proves the greater our scope becomes to expand for the future. Therefore this really is going to be a truly player driven event as its increased size, scope and success will depend upon the support you give.

As we have said this year’s inaugural tournament is being held at Maelstrom Games Eye of the Storm venue on the 26th and 27th March 2011.
Tickets will be £35 which includes a hot/cold buffet lunch on both days, and an evening meal on Saturday. Tickets will be sold on a first come first served basis and can be purchased on www.uk40kgt.co.uk  from Monday 4th October 2010 at 6pm GMT.

The event will consist of 6 games at 1750pts over 2 days with no composition restrictions beyond you may only use current and official Games Workshop Warhammer 40,000 Codices (so no Forge World) with the standard force organisation chart. The first round will be a random draw, with subsequent rounds being drawn on a swiss system because if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best!

For full details of the event please download the RULES PACK

There will be a minimum painting standard to be adhered to, similar to that employed over the years at the GW Throne of Skulls Grand Tournaments. This is because all of us prefer to face painted armies across professional built boards and terrain. There will be awards for the best painted army at the event, but there will be no soft scores to speak of. Your final ranking at the event will be based solely upon your gaming prowess. We understand that this may not appeal to everyone, but we feel there are plenty of excellent events across the UK with a stronger hobby over gaming focus; such as Games Workshops own Throne of Skulls Grand Tournament. That is not to say however, that we will tolerate poor sportsmanship (WAACer's) at our events, as we believe that it is entirely possible to play both tough and fair. Winning and having fun are not mutually exclusive and we hope to prove that with this event.

We have also set up a small forum; http://independentukgrandtournaments.freeforums.org. This is intended to be a venue for people to discuss the particulars of the UK 40K GT, whether that be submitting a rules question for the FAQ team, discussing travel arrangements, army lists, or even just laying down some smack talk.

Hopefully this has whetted your appetite for the event and you are already ear marking you calendars for the 26th and 27th March 2011. As we have mentioned above tickets can be purchased direct from
www.uk40kgt.co.uk on Monday 4th October 2010 at 6pm GMT.

Until then however, "Stay Frosty"

Regards

So, yeah the 1st UK indy GT sounds very good.So good I am actually considering flying over there and participating. Knowing how meticulous Neil is and with his experience from organising previous tournaments I can guarantee this is going to be a top event. Well better start saving some money then!

  1. I thought about going to this when you told me about it, but because I am going to Adepticon in April and it is a lot cheaper for me in the long run, I am going to have to pass.

It would be amazing to catch up with all of the Flameon Crew though....

  4. Thanks for the invitation Neil, I would love to come and go to both events, but its not happening, I am a starving college student!

I should be able to go to the next event in 2012 if you guys have one or perhaps a tournament in the fall of 2011 after I start working full time.

Well maybe if you guys want to take care of the plane bill.... hahaha
