I've been through a few list for my long suffering Space Marine project. I started with the list that you can find over here and then moved to something else:
Forgefather Vulkan He'stan
3x Dreadnought, MM, HF
3 x 10 Tactical Marines, MM, MG, Sergeant (Combi-Flamer, Meltabombs), Rhino
2 x 2 Landspeeders, MM, HF
2 Attack Bikes, MM
2 x Predators, AC, HB sponsors
Now I think I am ready for something different.
I think that both of the above lists are pretty good. However I am not willing to paint tons of stuff at the moment (or buy them for that matter). I need a list with less models (that is easier to carry around too) but that can be quite effective as well. I think a dual raider list is ideal for this. I am thinking about something like this:
Forgefather Vulkan He'stan
2 x 5 TH/SS Terminators
2 x 10 Space Marines, MM, Flamer, Rhino
3 x Land Speeder, MM, HF
1 x Land Raider Crusader, Extra Armour, Pintle MM
1 x Land Raider Redeemer, Extra Armour, Pintle MM
A plethora of master crafted Thunderhammers is beautiful and it keeps with the Salamanders theme very well. I know the list is lacking in long range firepower but I think the fast moving melta units could compensate for that up to a certain measure.
The troops are a bit thin but I think the opponent will be too preoccupied with killing the Land Raiders so he will leave the measly tactical marines alone. The tacts will combat squad with the the Multimelta guy staying behind in the objective. The Flamer+Sergeant will go forward in the Rhino to claim some objectives of fry some luckless evemy models. I guess the Rhinos and Speeders could hide behind the Raiders but then again it would be wiser to present my opponent with more targets for saturation.
The termies could hold up against any other unit in the game. They are an amazing close combat unit and very cost effective. Vulkan could ride with one of the units in order to take down any extremely hard to kill enemy. Otherwise he can stay with the tacticals and provide some support.
So what do you guys think? Any obvious mistakes with the list? If you suggest any changes please keep in mind that I'd prefer for the army to remain compact. Thanks!
"A plethora of master crafted Thunderhammers"
ReplyDeleteThat would imply TOO MANY thunder hammers, and you can NEVER have too many thunder hammers!
True that. 10 TH however are enough to rock my boat at 1750 points. How is your quadruple list coming along? You think mine is okay for 1750 points?
ReplyDeleteas some1 who playes only terminator lists, i bring forth a warning: 10 th/ss termies are not as beefy as ppl make em out to be...
ReplyDeleteOn your second list, I'd drop a Land Speeder and beef up your tac squads to Razorbacks with Extra Armour and trade the Flamers for Meltaguns. Then I'd have Vulkan ride along in a Razorback instead of a Land Raider. Those TH/SS Termies are going to be a handful with or without Vulkan, but adding him to a Combat squad gives them a lot more punch.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to go with the triple raider list over the quad. I found out that the store I was hoping to play at isn't hosting 'Ard Boyz round 2. The next closest store to me will feature at least four people that I've never won a match against, so I'm going with the best list possible.
Good luck with your games Paul and thanks for your suggestions, I will keep them in mind (it's easy enough to change between the 2 lists).
ReplyDelete@ForTheLion: Are your termies inside Land Raiders or footslogging?
It's true that a squad of 5 TH/SS Termies can go down quickly if your dice give out. I lost 3 out of 5 in a single round of Tau shooting, and that can really throw a wrench into your tactics. Assaulting straight out of a Land Raider is the best way to go with them. With no guns, their 2+/3+ is completely wasted if they're not swinging away.
ReplyDeleteit is intresting and destructive beyond measure in close quarters, but you have almost no Long range shooting, i would suggest changing one or both the land raiders to their Lascannon version, atleast the crusader one.
