What's going on in this picture? Why is the gnoblar so excited? Why is does the rhinox look so upset (and slightly constipated)? Is this even legal in the Old World? Anyway I hope all this exist only in my morbid imagination.
First of all let me say something. I really like my Orcs and Goblins army. But I also want to play more games (I have probably played less than 20 games under 8th edition). The O&Gs is a very personable army but it is also very unruly and especially large. I don't enjoy playing with large armies these days, my stamina seems to have diminished. An army with fewer models would be ideal for me. Enter the Ogres (not literally).
I always had a soft spot for the Ogre Kingdoms army (big guys with dubious facial hair, what's not to like?) but its dismal performance (from what I've been hearing other people saying) on the tabletop always deterred me from getting into it. The Ogres improved with 8th edition and especially with their shiny new army book so it was high time for me to delve into their list.
Unfortunately, I am a Fantasy noob. Thankfully I got internets so I've been paying close attention to Mr. Νικηφόρος Ogre articles. With the advice given on his blog and some feedback from him I came up with the following list based on what I think could be effective and what models I'd like to purchase and paint:
Bruiser, BSB, Heavy Armour,Ironfist, Banner of Swiftness, Lookout Gnoblar, 163
Butcher, Lv2, Dispel Scroll, Great Weapon, 169
7 Ogres, Standard, Lookout Gnoblar, Ironfists, 239
6 Ogres, Ironfists, 192r
6 Ironguts, Standard Bearer, Lookout Gnoblar, Standard of Discipline, 288
2 Mournfang Cavalry, Heavy Armour, Ironfists, 140
2 Mournfang Cavalry, Heavy Armour, Ironfists, 140
5 Maneaters,Brace of Pistols,Sniper, Scouts 310
Iron Blaster, 170
Stonehorn, Harpoon Launcher, 250
Pretty much all the units in the army are quite hard hitting (even the "warmachine"!) but it's only defense is to hope that I can pull off the boosted Trollgut spell and give the units Regenation (Toothcracked is not bad either). The Maneaters is a sneaky, little unit (well as subtle and small Ogres can be) with Sniper + Scout they could potentially kill a Lv4 in the 1st turn (if he is T3 and no ward save that is). That could be potentially game changing.
Can't afford to buy many models at the time unfortunately. I've already ordered the Stonehorn/Thundertask and also bough the Pirate Maneater (almost finished painting him, photos will follow soon). In the meantime I'll try to gather as much info as possible in order to build a decently competitive list so all the feedback is very much appreciated.
That pic is not right... ಠ_ಠ
ReplyDeleteHar har har (hahaha).I have to find some time to paint my own Ogres.
ReplyDeleteI think I ll call one of them 'Pagkalos' and another to name him 'Benizelos'
Good kuck in your new project my friend
Are you going to give all of your ogres epic beards?
ReplyDeleteO.o Dunno whats going on with that gnoblar but it may have to do with how FU**ING AWESOME this paintjob is!!
ReplyDeleteThe best GW models are the Ogres, I don't play Warhammer fantasy but I still have ogres.
ReplyDeleteSorry guys I should have forwarded that eye (and maybe brain) bleach should be required after seeing this pics. Thanks for the support I will post pics of my Ogres as I (slowly) buy them and (very very slowly) paint them. This is a project I really really wanna keep alive though.
ReplyDelete@Mihalis: This picture is taken straight from the GW website.
lol, its because your painting skills equally match 'Eavy Metal standards that got me confused... and of course my poor reading skills
ReplyDeletestill an awesome paintjob :P
Hehe, I'll take that as a compliment then. I think my Pirate Maneater is coming along nicely.
ReplyDelete@Brandon: I am not a very good sculptor as you know and I don't want to ruin any of the beautiful(?) ogre models but I mind be tempted to give them some beards if I realise there are going to be too many similar faces in the army.
