Greek 2012 ETC 40K team report

When I read the reports from Eirini (40K ETC team coach) and Yiannis (Captain) I immediately knew that I had to post them on my blog. It's becoming sort of a tradition anyway, with Leonidas posting his extensive battle reports last year. Check their ETC experience in their own words after the jump. Enjoy!

Second Independent Clubs Tournament

Wow, talk about way beyond posting time. I attended this tournament back in February but for some reason (maybe it's my notorious laziness and procrastination) haven't posted the battle report yet. So, yeah, here you go. This is for the second Independent Clubs Tournament . You might remember the last one I went in September and had a really good time. I wouldn't miss this one for the world. Especially if you consider  that this time there would be ten people going from my gaming group/guild. So, with my trusty Ork list I started my journey on a bleak January morning.

As usual I din't bother with pictures. Fortunately, Mr. Markador was there with his camera so I will be borrowing his pics liberally. Check out for more stuff after the break. 

Doubles tournament FS Victoria 05/11/11 report

Yet another tournament for me this month. This time it was Doubles, so slightly different though. Check here to see the conditions for building the list since it was identical to the one I recently won. This time I would be playing together with my friend Manos. He has an awesome collection of Tyranids (complete with a Hierophant Bio-Titan and more than a dozen Monstrous Creatures) but he was never big on playing 40K. We have recently started some practice games though and I thought a Doubles tournament with a more experienced player (me!) would be an ideal introduction to tournaments.

Before I start with the report let me explain what GC is all about and why I wanted to participate in it. To put it simply, it’s a team tournament competition similar to the European Team Championship (ETC). 

Teams consisting of four players (you can have as many substitutes as you want but only four people can play at each round) compete against each other and gain points depending on how well each individual player does. In the end the team with the most points win.

Simple enough, right? The trick here is that in every round, the pairing between the opposing players is not random but has to be determined by the Captain of each team. This bring an element of “rock-paper-scissors” to the game that I personally don’t like. I don’t think 40K was meant to be played like that. There is no point in making a balanced, good list if you get picked to play with an opponent that specifically made his list to counter yours. Furthermore, edit: in the ETC Special Characters are not allowed which is a folly in my opinion (will have to elaborate more about this on a different post or this one will become too long).

However none of this matters. The tournament was conceived as a means to bring different players together from all over Greece (there were teams from Patra and Larissa that had to travel from very far away to make it) and expand the 40K community. Competition takes a backseat here. Getting to know new people and celebrating the game is the main goal. So even if I didn’t agree with the format, I decided to give it a go.

Don't know why it took me so long to write, I guess I wasn't in the mood. There is an excellent report also from the Invulnerable blog. Games Corps Battle Report 2/2

So, i believe that we had left off our story at the part where the glorious Deathwing had purged the filthy dark eldar from the Cthonic Sector. Our Next story takes us to a little piece of intelligence that showed us that the Ultramarines had recently assaulted a chaos held world near the eastern fringes, and as a result had captured an old warrior clad in black who spewed heresies about the noble Dark Angels. The Ultramarines had called for the inquisitions aid. But when the Ravenwing arrived to reason with the sons of Guilliman, they opened fire on the second company of the Dark Angels, wounding Sammael and wiping out 3 squads as well as 12 Land Speeders. This was not to be taken lightly by Belial, who immediately departed upon his battle barge "Sword Of Caliban" to the east.

So lets get tactical!

And we reached the final match. Greece against Belgium. For uknown reasons I was nominated again by my captain and – what a surprise!- I was picked again by the Imperial Guard player. I chose a table with heavy terrain. My opponent was Maarten Vanderkrieken. My first impression for Maarten was that he was extremelly tired, even more than I was. He confessed that six matches in 2 days were too many. This did not affect his performance though, unfortunatelly for me.

Battle reports from Montreux, ETC 2011 - DAY 2 - ROUND 5

We were facing Northern Ireland. Both teams near the bottom of the rank. My captain had the marvellous idea to nominate me second and without hesitation the Irish pitched me against the Imperial Guard. Another captain for me, Jonny Fisher or Jonny65.

Game Corps. 2000 Point Tournament Report

Another week passes , and we find ourselves reflecting the battles that we expirienced in the past few days. Personaly i have to say that my weekend was filled with battles of warhammer 40k against tough and intelligent opponents.

On Sunday 4th, i attended a 2000 point tournament, where 12 players participated. I would call it local, but i would be lying as the players that attended came from far and wide to hone their skills of strategy and perception. These players are not newcomes to the competitive scene in Greece, as many of them have attended a great many other tournaments that are considered as "national".

So enough blabberjabber from this humble servant of the Emperor, with the battle report!

Battle reports from Montreux, ETC 2011 - DAY 2 - ROUND 4

 Here is the second instalment of my battle reports from ETC 2011. I decided to publish the battle reports of the second day separately, in thee separate posts, to make it more convenient for the reader.

  

The first game on Sunday was against Austria. I was placed against Space Wolves! Imperial Guard and Space Wolves with Long Fangs and razor spam are anti-lists for my list. Yet, on the 2nd day I would be facing only these opponents, as it would turn out.

Deployment: Dawn of War. Primary objective: Annihilation. Secondary objective: Seize Ground (3 fixed counters). Positioning the objectives : one objective is in the center of the table. The other 2 objectives are 24" from player's table edge and 6" of lateral table edges.

My opponent was Georg "Firstruleoffightclub" Auenhammer, the Austrian Captain. Another Captain for me. He had two Runepriests, 2 units of wolfscouts, 5 wolfguards with combi-meltas, 3 wolf riders, 4 units of grey hunters, two in rhinos and two in Las-Plas razorbacks, and (surprise!) 3 units of Long fangs – 14 missile launchers in total.

Blood Angels vs Eldar Battle Report

I got to play another game against my mate, the legendary Talos, yesterday. We have both started new armies in the last few months so this is a good way to put them to the test. Despite the awesome  thunderstorm we made it into Game Corps. store for our battle. Stavros was very eager to write a battle report (you will find out why after reading it) so without any permission or anything from him (like I need it) I am posting it here too. MUHAHAHAH!!! Enjoy!

Doubles tournament report

Third tournament for this month. Maybe I'm overdoing it? Nah, it's all good. This time would be a bit different though since it was a Doubles format. That means I had to cooperate with someone. I always hated that part...Anyway, Moskitokiller suggested that we should play together and I accepted. Few days later he canceled on me though. Oh, well, what can you do? At that point I guessed I had to miss that one. But few days after he was available again. I've already changed my plans for that Saturday twice. I should be glad I have such a tolerating wife! 

We had to have 750 points each of whatever race we fancied. One HQ and one troops each was mandatory and if we wanted to double up a slot (i.e. two elite units) we had to have at least one unit in each other FOC category (i.e. 1 elites, 1 FA, 1 HS before we could put another HS down). We were supposed to be working around our army lists all week but in typical Greek fashion, Leonidas called me at 9 o'clock in the morning before the tournament to discuss our options. Second Tournament with Blood Angels

After only one week from my first tournament with the red boys, it was high time to put them back to the test. I didn't do too well previously but now I had more games and experience under my (quite large) belt with the army. So how did I fare this time? And most importantly, what excuse can I use now that I'm not that green anymore.

And it finally happened. I put these bad boys to the test, through fire and ice, toil and trouble, so I can see what they are made off. Turns out they are made of Raspberry fluff but that's a different story...

Games with my BA so far

I finally got to play a couple of games with my DoA BA list this week after months of collecting and painting (months to paint 15 models that is...). I must say that it is generally a very convenient army to carry around and use on the tabletop and since you don't do much in the first 3 player round and then you only have to move a round a few models, games are pretty quick. I am happy with how the army plays as well but the real test will be this Saturday when I am going to use them for a mini tournament.

The Green Tide

Good month everyone! The first of April is definitely one of my  favourite days of the year. Today, everyone can let their imagination run wild and come up with the most unfeasible stories they can imagine without running the risk of being called sneaky liars. Hooray! 

The warhammer community never fails to amuse me in this fashion. I've been reading entertaining stories all day long. Even Games Workshop chipped in with their own, unique style. However much I like this though, I won't conjure up any lies today. My life is far too exciting and eventful. I don't have to resort to figments of imagination in order to entertain and inform. Instead let me tell you how one of my (gaming) dreams came true.

O&G VS High Elves 2000 points and some more army building thoughts

I was supposed to play against my mate Spiros and his Dwarfs yesterday. Unfortunately, he had to cancel and I was really disappointed since I was very pumped to play my first game using the new O&G army book. However, Kostas was in town (taking a little leave from his military service) and he was willing to take me on with his High Elves but he didn't have too much time ahead. I packed my staff very quickly (I only move fast when there is food or warhammer involved) and run to my FLGS. Bear in mind that I am still in the process of learning the 8th edition rules (and obviously the new O&G since I got the new book like 5 days ago) and all this is reflected in my course of action.

Battle Log for 2010

This year, especially during and after the summer, found me quite active in the 40K front. I attended a few tournaments (big and small) and got involved with the Warbands league. Had a chance to play against many new people and made some friends along the way. I got to play many of the scenarios from the Battlemissions supplment with Stefanos (battle reports here and here) and a few more friendly games.

I've been keeping a record for my battle result in the last few months. It's a good way to remember things for the future and also do a bit of a statistical analysis. I am mainly interested in the results of tournaments game of course since friendly games are somewhat different than competitive play. So here is what I got for this year:

Warbands League Round 4

It's been 3 weeks already since my last Warband League game. Boy, time does go fast! Me and Leonidas was up to the task but unfortunately Stefanos couldn't play on Sunday since he was working. Furthermore none of the substitutes was available for one reason or the other. This meant that we had to concede two of the games and that would put us 8 points behind before we even start playing any games. So the least we could do to emerge victorious would be to draw once and win three games. That would give us 10 points and 9 points to the opposing team. Not an easy task but certainly not impossible.

Furthermore the FLGS we were supposed to play was having a MtG tournament at the same day. This meant that there was no available space for any other games. Since it is one of the very few gaming stores that cater for Warhammer players (with at least 2 gaming boards suitable for 40K) open on a Sunday we really had a hard time trying to find an alternative place. Fortunately, the excellent people from the Dragon Phoenix Inn let us play over there. The place is not too far away from my home either, so all the better.
